Crossbow scope mounts

Crossbow scope mounts make it easy to aim with great accuracy at your intended target. Traditional sights are fine for close-in shots, but for anything beyond 20 yards or so you'll want to seriously consider equipping your crossbow with a scope mount - especially if you need critical shot placement to make the kill.

There are basically three types of scopes available: peep sights, red dots, and magnified scopes. A peep sight is simply a long slender tube which you "peep" through. These are very inexpensive, and adequate for some instances, but their primary drawback is that they do not work well in low-light conditions.

A red dot scope provides no amplification, but works well in all lighting conditions. These require a battery to function, however, which could present a problem if your battery dies in the middle of a hunt.

Scope mounts come in various degrees of power, typically ranging from 2x32mm to 4x32mm. Higher powers of magnification are available, but typically not necessary. For very little money you can get a basic, no-frills scope. If you're willing to spend a little more money you can purchase a scope with a range adjustment feature. You'll have to decide if this is a priority to you.

Some crossbows come with a scope pre-mounted on them, which can save you some money - though it will generally be a lower-end scope. Don't purchase a crossbow with a permanently affixed scope mount, as it may not be the kind or magnification level that you want, and you will be stuck with it.
