Crossbow cocking string

You will need to replace your crossbow's cocking string from time to time as they will wear down from regular use. It's best to replace the string before it breaks, so learn to look for signs of wear and fraying leading up to your first replacement. String wax will also prolong the life of your cocking string and is relatively inexpensive.

There's nothing worse than having a cocking string break on you at the start of a hunt, so carry an extra string and any tools you might need to replace it. Store them in your crossbow case so you always have them readily available should a string break on you.

Historically, cocking strings were made from plant or tree fibers, animal sinew, or similar materials. Today, crossbow cocking strings are generally made of dacron but can also be made of other materials.

Compound crossbows require special cables - the cocking strings described above are for recurve crossbows.

Good luck in your hunt for the best crossbow cocking string.
